MAN SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDER

The Sibasa Regional Court has convicted and sentenced a Zimbabwean national, Dzavakwa Pesani Percy (37), to 18 years imprisonment for murder. During the trial, the accused pleaded guilty, and the court heard that on 17 February 2018, in Dididi village at Ndivheni bar lounge, the accused and the deceased, Amen Nemadodzi, were drinking, when the accused chopped the deceased all over his body several times, alleging that he took his money.

In aggravation of the sentence, the state Adv. Rabelani Mutsinda Makhera submitted that the accused is a heartless person, he did not show any respect for the life of the deceased, and the way he chopped him, it was as if he was killing a snake to make sure that it is dead. Makhera further said that the accused pleaded guilty because the state evidence was overwhelming.

In sentencing, the Presiding Officer, Marupeng Daniel Mabitsela, emphasised that the accused was not remorseful for his deeds, and he was very cruel. The prosecutions welcome the sentence and applauds the good work done by Adv. Makhera and investigating officer, sergeant Shudufhadzo Britney Sivhaga. We hope that the sentence imposed will deter would-be offenders.
