Limpopo Provincial Government to Celebrate Freedom Day 2023 in Tafelkop, Sekhukhune

The Limpopo Provincial Government is set to join the rest of the country in commemorating Freedom Day on the 27th of April 2023. This year’s commemoration will be held under the theme “Consolidating and Safeguarding Our Democratic Gains”.

The historical event will take place at Tafelkop Stadium in Sekhukhune District, where the Premier of Limpopo, Mr Chupu Stanley Mathabatha, will address the Limpopo Citizenry. The 27th of April 2023 marks the 29th anniversary of the first democratic elections, which is known as Freedom Day. This special day is honoured annually, to pay tribute to the heroes and heroines who fought and sacrificed for freedom to pave the way for a democratic, non-sexist, non-racial, equitable, and prosperous South Africa.

Premier Mathabatha acknowledges the significance of this day, saying: “Let us remember that the rights and freedoms we are enjoying today did not come on a silver platter. They were literally attained through tears, sweat, and blood. People paid the ultimate price for us to have these rights thus we cannot afford to take them for granted.”

The Freedom Day commemoration will begin with a 5km Schools Sport Marathon, led by the MEC of Sport, Arts and Culture, MEC Nakedi Kekana Several schools from the Elias Motsoaledi area including parents will participate.
