TWO SUSPECTS NABBED FOR DAMAGE TO ESSENTIAL INFRASTRUCTURE, SUSPECTED STOLEN STEEL WORTH OVER HALF A MILLION RANDS CONFISCATED

POLOKWANE : An Intelligent tactical operation driven by Mokopane Crime Intelligence, Mokopane Crime prevention in conjunction with relevant role players focusing on suspected stolen properties yielded positive results following the arrest of two foreign nationals and the confiscation of suspected stolen steel on Thursday 2023-04-20 at about 15:00.

According to the information, members operationalized an information about the vehicle being used to transport stolen steel and the vehicle was identified within the vicinity of Mokopane.

The team immediately pounced on the vehicle along Bonsmara Street which resulted in the arrest of a 29 and 34 year old African Males Foreign Nationals, driving a white Ford Ranger loaded with steel.

The suspects could not provide a reasonable explanation on the possession of the steel.

The dedicated investigation Team then commenced with a probe to establish the origin of the recovered steel.The team subsequently established that, the stolen steel was from a Tower next to a train Station outside Mokopane town.

The scene was visited and what used to be tower structure was discovered.

The suspect was allegedly interviewed further about the other steel from the tower, and it was established that they were already sold to a recycling company at Mokopane.

When the Team visited the business the steel suspected to be from the tower was also recovered from the company premises.

Further investigation in identifying the recovered steel and to confirm the lawful owner was done and it was confirmed that the tower structure belonged to Telkom and it was worth ten million rand (R1000000-00).

Through the assistance of relevant authority, a case of Tempering with Essential Infrastructure was opened in Mokopane.

The suspects were then detained at Mokopane SAPS for Possession of suspected stolen goods. The recovered steel worth more than eight hundred thousands rand as well as a motor vehicle worth fifty thousand rand were confiscated.

The arrested suspects will be further interviewed with a view to see if they cannot be linked with cases of this nature.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers hailed the outstanding job done by the Team.

Police investigations are continuing.
