EFF STATEMENT ON THE SURGE OF GENDER BASED VIOLENCE (GBV) CASES
DURING THE EASTER HOLIDAYS.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Limpopo strongly condemns the surge
in Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases, which resulted in the killing of multiple
women in the hands of their partners during the Easter holidays. We are
deeply saddened and reeling with anger and shock over the brutal murders of
women despite the condemnation of these barbaric incidents.
This follows the brutal murders of a 27-year-old woman who was stabbed to
death allegedly by her boyfriend at Mbaula village in Giyani, while in a
separate incident a 23-year-old woman was stoned to death by her exboyfriend at Dzingidzingi village, also in Giyani. We also note with disgust that
a 20-year-old woman stabbed her 25-year-old husband to death in
Mookgophong after a heated argument.
These incidents alone, highlight the depths of cruelty and callousness that
perpetrators have unleashed on their partners, and it cannot be tolerated in
our society. The inhumane manner in which these defenceless man and
women were killed has exposed the level of barbarism in their partners who
should be the ones protecting them.
The EFF calls on police to be hands on with GBV and deal decisively with men
and women who violate fundamental human right to life and murder their
partners. We hope that the criminal justice system will not fail to deal harshly
with the alleged perpetrators by handing down harsh sentences.
Furthermore, the state must refuse bail to all the perpetrators arrested in
connection with killing their partners. We demand justice for the lives cut short
by lack of humanity!
