Deputy Minister Dhlomo to engage Traditional Leaders on ex-miners compensation funds programme

Pretoria: The Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo will tomorrow (Saturday, 18 March) hold discussions with traditional leaders in Harry Gwala District Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal on the ex-mineworkers compensation funds.

The meeting is part of ongoing countrywide engagements with various stakeholder to raise awareness about different compensation fund schemes and other unclaimed social protection due to former mineworkers who contracted TB, Silicosis and other occupational lung diseases while working in the mines between March 1965 and December 2019, together with those who were not paid their pension or provident funds.

Deputy Minister Dhlomo will be joined by several government leaders from sister departments and local government, including the Deputy Ministers of Mineral Resources and Energy, Dr Nobuhle Nkabane; Employment and Labour, Ms Boitumelo Moloi and the Executive Mayor of Harry Gwala District Municipality, Councillor Zamo Nxumalo.

The event will be followed by a broader mining and energy imbizo to be led by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy.
