Muledane residents protest over lack of water

The DA has written to the Executive Mayor of Vhembe District Municipality, Dowelani Nenguda, and the Manager of Technical Services to raise concerns over the failure to provide water in Thulamela Municipality.

The communities in the municipality have been complaining about a lack of drinking water due to persistent cuts in the water supply, with some areas like Muledane, Ward 18, going for months without water.

The residents of Muledane have been left very frustrated by the severe water shortages that have left their taps dry. This has led to protests over the past three days that resulted in the burning of tyres, blocking of traffic, and destruction of road signs and other property.

The DA sympathises with the angry residents of Muledane who are desperate for a reliable supply of water, but we condemn the destruction of property and call for calm in the area and that the right to protest be conducted responsibly.

The DA will also demand that Vhembe District Municipality provide water tankers in the area as a short-term relief for the residents of Muledane that desperately need water.

It is clear that the ANC-led municipality has failed dismally to provide basic services like water and the DA will keep fighting to ensure our residents have better services.
