Makgoe condemns physical abuse learner, calls for ban of school bus driver from working with children
The Free State Department of Education has condemned in a strongest possible the wanton physical abuse of a Hanover Farm School over 17-year-old grade 12 learner by school transport bus driver on Momday, 30 January 2023.
The school is located near Bulfontein , Lejweleputswa District.
In a harrowing video clips which has since gone viral on various media plaforms, 56 -year-old bus driver is seen physically abusing the learner in a bus -kicking the learner on his stomach, hitting and punching him.
“ I am completely disgusted by this physical and emotional abuse of this learner and others who witness this brutallity, “ Free State Education Mec, Dr Tate Makgoe.
“This man must be permanently be barred from
working with our children,” he said.
Makgoe said, his department is providing learner transport to farm learners to allow them to access basic education by protecing them to travell long distances to and from schools.
“We have instructed the transport owner to immediately suspend the driver, “ Makgoe.
The matter has also been reported to the Department of Social Development whch is the custodian of the childrens act .
The Social Department will take further steps to ensure that children are protected from further abuse by this perpetrator as prescribed in the Children’s Act 38 of 2005.
Police are investigating the matter.
Pychosocial support and counselling will be provided to learners who witnessed this horrifying abuse.
