EFF STATEMENT ON FEMALE POLICE OFFICER WHO HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOR
RAPING HER OWN SON.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Limpopo strongly condemns child
abuse after a 40 year old police constable was arrested and charged over rape
and sexual grooming of her 10 year old son.
The EFF welcomes the arrest of the police officer in question, who is facing
additional charges of creating and distributing child pornography material and
sexual grooming.
A video recorded ordeal that has since gone viral on social media is disgusting
and deplorable, as it depicts an alarming level of socials ills confronting society.
It is important that the Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner takes a stand
against child abuse by drawing the line against harbouring perpetrators within
SAPS. We call for a heavy sentence to be meted out against the perpetrator.
In addition, the Limpopo Department of Social Development must launch
community-based awareness campaigns and to have Social Workers
permanently deployed to households, schools and youth centres in the fight
against child abuse.
In this regard, we urge the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID)
to speed up their investigations into the conduct of the accused police officer.
IPID must create a division that will focus on complaints against police who do
not allow victims to open child abuse and GBV cases.
The unit would also investigate cases where police are complicit or are alleged
to be the perpetrators of crimes against women and children.
