BUSINESS ROBBERY SUSPECTS NABBED AND FIREARM RECOVERED

POLOKWANE- The Police in Apel have arrested two suspects shortly after they allegedly committed a business robbery at Atok village today on Friday, 20 January 2023.

It is alleged that five suspects carrying firearms entered a tuckshop in Atok village and robbed the owner of undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects fled the scene driving in a silver grey VW Polo without registration numbers.

Police were alerted and a tactical snap operation was immediately conducted in the area.The suspect’s motor vehicle was spotted at Pelangwe village where one suspect was cornered and arrested.

The other suspects ran towards the mountain. The police officers then conducted a search on the mountain and the second suspect was arrested after a shoot out with the police. The suspect was shot and wounded in the process. He was taken to hospital for medical treatment under police guard.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest and urged community members to provide information that can help in the apprehension of remaining suspects.

The suspects may be linked to other serious and violent crimes in the process as police investigation are unfolding.

The two suspects aged 29 and 41 are expected to appear in the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of business robbery, attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.

The search for remaining suspects continues.
