TEACHER AND JURISTIC PERSON ARRESTED FOR COVID-19 TEMPORARY EMPLOYEE RELIEF SCHEME FRAUD

LIMPOPO – The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation members based in Polokwane have arrested a teacher and Juristic person in connection with Temporary Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) fraud this morning.

It is alleged that between April and June 2020, the accused Florinah Kekana (51) who is employed as a teacher by the Department of Education Limpopo Province applied for TERS funds from the Department of Employment and Labour through the company named Masegotshepang Business Enterprise Pty Ltd.

The matter was initially investigated by the Special Investigating Unit and later referred to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation. During the Investigation, it was discovered that Kekana is the Director of the company (Masegotshepang Business Enterprise Pty Ltd).

The Department allegedly suffered a loss of R11 046-00 due to these fraudulent activities. Kekana and the company (represented by its Director) have since appeared before the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court today and released on warning. The duo will be in court again on 20 February 2023.
