Schools at Ephraim Mogale Municipality open after a week-long shutdown over a tar road

A stalemate over the disruption of schooling and the provision of other services has been resolved in ward 12 of the Ephraim Mogale Municipality in the Sekhukhune District. Residents from five villages have embarked in a shut down of services demanding that the MEC of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure updates them over the upgrading of D4328 from gravel to tar.

The MEC was joined by Kgoshi Matlala, the local Mayor Cllr Given Moimane and the District Executive Mayor Cllr Maleke Mokganyetsi and other Councillors. She assured residents that a consultant was already appointed in December last year to do detailed designs for the road which is currently in a bad state.

“Am happy that it has been declared that children will be going to school tomorrow, we are discouraging that when communities have issues they block learners from going to school. We however want to thank this community because they did not distract property and we have managed to resolve the stalemate” said MEC Rakgoale.

Ward 12 Development forum Secretary Tumisho Phatlane says they are delighted that the MEC has interacted with the community members and that the stalemate has been resolved.

The MEC added that the Department and it’s entity, RAL will have to improve their stakeholder relations to create an environment for effective flow of information.

The community has agreed to allow schooling to resume with immediate effect, after the MEC announced that, a consultant was appointed in December last year and has already started doing detailed designs for the road.
