CASE AGAINST THE EIGHT SUSPECTS APPREHENDED FOR SERIOUS OFFENCES POSTPONED FOR VERIFICATION

The Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court deferred the case against the eight suspects, who were arrested by the Jouberton police for serious offences, to 24 January 2023, for the verification of their addresses as well as profiling. Zonke Magxwalisa (18), Eunice Phevouka (56), Aviwe Magxwalisa (25), Fudiswa Magxwalisa (55), Pesina Jabeni (67), Thuso Nokwane (36) and Bulela Magxwalisa (25), are being charged for possession of illegal firearms, possession of ammunition and possession of the stolen property. The eighth suspect, a minor, was released under the care of the elderly sister, shortly after their arrest on 13 January 2023.

According to police reports, a tip-off from members of the public was received and acted upon, leading them to a house in Extension 14 in Jouberton. The report revealed that upon police’s arrival at the house, they found eight suspects (five females and three males). A search then ensued, and police found two firearms, live rounds of ammunition, suspected stolen shoes, plasma tv, laptops, till register, counterfeit money production equipment, old South African money, and US dollar notes, which the suspects could not account for. Moreover, police found a slaughtered cow at the back of the house and the suspects could also not account for it.

The seven will remain in police custody until their next court appearance and are expected to register a formal bail application. Meanwhile, the minor will remain under the care of her older sister until the matter is completed.
