SON SENTENCED TO TWO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR THE RAPE AND MURDER OF HIS MOTHER
LUTENDO LIVHEBE – MUDAU -Paul Conradie(37) has been sentenced to two life imprisonment by the High Court of South Africa, Northern Cape Division sitting in Kimberley, raping, and killing his mother. On Sunday 02 February 2020, the accused together with his mother attended church and had lunch at the church. In the afternoon, they went to a certain place and drank homebrew beer. The mother and son later left the place and went to another place in Donkerhoek, Ritchie which is 40kms from Kimberley, where the mother lay down under a tree. During that time, the son raped the mother, and the accused then killed her by strangulation.
Through rigorous, intense, and detailed investigations by the Police, the accused was arrested on 03 February 2020, and the prosecution opposed his bail application and was remanded in custody until the commencement of his trial in the High Court. During the mitigation of the sentence, the Prosecution represented by Senior State Adv. Quinton Hollander argued that the rape and murder of a mother by her son, was a horrendous act and that the court should not deviate from the maximum sentence of life imprisonment. During sentencing, the High Court Judge put it to the accused that he could not find any compelling and mitigating circumstances to deviate from the prescribed sentences. The court found the accused guilty and he was sentenced to life imprisonment for each charge.
