MULTIPLE LONG TERM SENTENCES IMPOSED ON TWO CONVICTED MURDERERS

PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER WELCOMES MULTIPLE LONG TERM SENTENCES IMPOSED ON TWO CONVICTED MURDERERS

Lutendo Livhebe – Mudau – Two men were handed down hefty sentences this week, by different Magistrate’s Courts in Limpopo after they were convicted for separate incidents of murder perpetrated in the Giyani Policing area during 2018 and 2020.

Samuel Munareng aged 23, residing in Skhimini village was doing grade 09 when he stabbed and killed his friend Lucky Mamaila aged 38.On 07 August 2018 Lucky was with a female companion coming from a local tarven when they met the accused at about 02:00am, who then accused him of having an affair with his girlfriend. An argument ensued and the accused stabbed the Lucky several times with a knife and thereafter cut off his genitals.The accused then fled the scene.

Police were summoned to the scene and upon arrival, the victim had already succumbed to the injuries.His genitals were found few meters away from the scene. Police opened a case of murder and the case was allocated to Detective Warrant Officer Soza Minisi of Giyani Detectives.The suspect was arrested a day after the incident.

The suspect was kept in custody until he was ultimately convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment at the Thohoyandou Regional Court on Tuesday 08th November 2022.

Meanwhile, the Giyani Regional Court on Monday 07 November 2022 sentenced Emanuel Mchabi aged 36 from Thomo Village to an effective life imprisonment for the murder he committed on Monday 02 November 2020 at about 19:00.The trial court heard that the accused attacked his neighbours after their children went to his home and broke a window while playing. A fight broke out between the neighbours and the accused.One of the women was carrying an 18 month old baby on her back and the accused hit the baby with a pick handle while assaulting the mother.The child was taken to hospital in a critical condition and later succumbed to the injuries.

Cases of murder, assault with intent to cause grevious bodily harm ( GBH) and assault common were opened and assigned to Detective Constable Nndwambi Emmanuel Fulufhelo attached to Giyani Detectives.

The suspect was arrested and later released on R5000 bail after several court appearances.On Thursday 18 August 2022 the accused was found guilty of murder,assault GBH and assault common.

The sentences were passed as follows:

*Count1: Murder: Life imprisonment.

*Count 02: Assault GBH18 months imprisonment.

  • Count 03: Assault common- 06 Months imprisonment.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the excellent investigation conducted by the two detectives who ensured that justice prevailed for the victims.
