MOGALAKWENA MIUNICIPAL POOL ABANDONED SINCE 2017

Mogalakwena municipal pool abandoned since 2017

The DA in Mokgalakwena calls on the municipal executive to provide plans to renovate the municipal swimming pool complex.

The last renovations were done at a cost of R332 000.00 in March 2017 to renovate the shallow swimming pool.

This was a total waste of tax payers’ money, as both the shallow pool and the large swimming pool have not been operational or utilised by the public for the last 5 years. (See photos here and here)

Part of the grounds are being used for bulk waste skips from the shopping centre located next to the public pool and attracts rodents and flies because the bins are not emptied regularly. (See photos here)

Residents will be deprived of utilising the swimming pools during the impending summer holiday for yet another year and the municipality is losing out on an income that could have been used to maintain the facility.

During August 2022 recommendations were discussed at the community services portfolio committee and submitted to council.

A general oversight by the community services portfolio members was set to take place on the 9 September 2022 but was postponed, no new date has been set.

Residents continue to suffer as a result of the antiquated and protracted factional infighting in the ANC which has caused the collapse of services in the municipality; the community deserve better.
