POLICE MAKE BREAKTHROUGH AS ONE SUSPECT IS ARRESTED FOR MURDER AND KIDNAPPING, SEARCH FOR REMAINING SUSPECT CONTINUES
POLOKWANE- A team of investigators that was assigned to track down the suspects who kidnapped a 47 year old woman, whose body was later found in her house at Masethe village in the Tshitale policing area outside Thohoyandou, has made a breakthrough with the arrest of one of the suspects yesterday at about 01:00. The suspect was arrested at Greenside under Westenburg policing area outside Polokwane.
The deceased’s brother had on 15 September 2022, received a call from his sister’s cellphone and a male person informed him that he had kidnapped his sister and that a ransom of R5000 was needed for her release.The matter was immediately reported to the police and a case of kidnapping was opened.The Provincial Organised Crime Unit then took over the case for further investigation.
The victim’s body was discovered on 09 October 2022 in her house, already in a state of decomposition. Police consequently opened a case of murder. She was identified as Nkhangweleni Mavis Musesi.
The arrested suspect was reportedly found in possession of a cellphone that was used to demand the ransom.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has hailed the members of the investigating team for working around the clock to ensure the suspects are arrested. We appeal to community members to assist with information about the remaining suspects, said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
The 29 year old suspect will appear before the Tshitale Magistrates Court tomorrow on Monday 24 October 2022, facing charges of kidnapping and murder.
