POLICE HUNT FOR SEVEN MALE SUSPECTS AFTER AN ATM BOMBING INCIDENT AT MHINGA VILLAGE
POLOKWANE: The members of Saselamani police under Vhembe District have opened a case of malicious damage to property following the bombing of an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in the early hours of Friday morning at one of the local supermarkets in Mhinga village, Vhembe district.
During the early hours of Friday, 24 April 2026, a 42 year-old employee of Polokwane ATM Solutions received a tamper alert on his monitoring laptop indicating that the door of the ATM located at Mhinga village, in one of the supermarket had been forcefully opened.
The complainant immediately contacted Saselamani SAPS to report the incident and they rushed to the vicinity.
Upon arrival, the police found that the ATM had been severely damaged using explosives. The estimated damage to the machine is R500.000.
Preliminary investigations revealed that seven unknown male suspects entered the premises and targeted the unguarded ATM. The suspects used explosives to blast the machine open.
The suspects fled the scene empty-handed as the ATM did not contain any cash at the time of the incident.
