Job Overview
Rand Water invites suitably qualified and motivated candidates to apply for the position of Artisan Assistant – Civil. This re-advertised role forms part of the Bulk Water Services Operations portfolio and is based at the Central Depot in Johannesburg South.
The successful incumbent will play a vital support role by assisting the Carpenter in executing daily operational tasks across the depot and various districts. This position is ideal for an individual with a solid foundation in carpentry, a hands-on approach to maintenance work, and a strong commitment to teamwork, safety, and service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
As an Artisan Assistant – Civil, your core duties will include, but are not limited to:
Providing day-to-day assistance to the Artisan/Carpenter in carrying out carpentry and civil-related tasks
Performing minor repairs on structures, fittings, and equipment
Conducting general maintenance work within the depot and district areas
Ensuring the workshop and surrounding work areas are kept clean, organized, and safe at all times
Handling, maintaining, and preparing tools and materials required for daily operations
Supporting the production of work to the highest quality and safety standards
Following all safety procedures and housekeeping protocols
Assisting with loading, offloading, and transportation of materials where required
Contributing to a positive, cooperative working environment
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Grade 12 (Matric) or N3 qualification
Basic knowledge of carpentry principles and practices
2–3 years’ experience in a similar working environment
Familiarity with carpentry tools, machinery, and workshop equipment
A clear understanding of workplace safety procedures
