SUSPECT FATALLY SHOT AND VEHICLE SEIZED DURING SHOOTING INCIDENT WITH SANDF IN TSHAMUTUMBU, VHEMBE DISTRICT
POLOKWANE – Police in Tshamutumbu under the Vhembe District have opened a case of murder and launched a manhunt after a suspect was fatally shot during a shooting incident at a local farm on Sunday, 23 November 2025, at about 19:00.
Members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) reportedly followed up on information regarding a Nissan Navara double cab that was being sought by a financial institution after the owner allegedly defaulted on payments for several months. While attempting to stop the vehicle, unknown suspects allegedly opened fire on the soldiers. The SANDF members returned fire.
Two male suspects then exited the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes. A thorough search of the area was conducted, during which one suspect was found lying unconscious with a gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were activated, and the suspect was transported to hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. His identity remains unknown at this stage.
Police have opened a case of murder for further investigation, and the vehicle has been seized.
A manhunt is underway to trace the outstanding suspect.
