ONE BROTHER ARRESTED, ANOTHER ON THE RUN FOR MURDER AND ATTEMPTED MURDER IN MALEBOHO GBV INCIDENT
POLOKWANE: The police in Maleboho, Capricorn District, are investigating a case of murder, attempted murder, and defeating the ends of justice following a gruesome incident at Wegdraai Village on Monday, 01 September 2025, at around 22:30.
According to preliminary reports, a 55-year-old man was allegedly attacked after the suspects, who are brothers, received information suggesting that the victim was romantically involved with the elder brother’s girlfriend.
The two suspects proceeded to the homestead where the victim and a 38-year-old woman were present. On arrival, a confrontation ensued, during which the elder brother allegedly attacked the man with an axe and severely injured the woman.
The suspects fled the scene, prompting police to launch a manhunt. Paramedics certified the male victim dead at the scene, while the woman was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the younger brother, aged 20, who was found at his residence. Police recovered the axe used during the attack, which the suspect had attempted to wash in an effort to destroy evidence. It was also discovered that the suspect is in the country illegally. He has since been charged with murder, attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and contravention of the Immigration Act.
The 51-year-old elder brother remains at large, and police have intensified efforts to trace and apprehend him.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the incident in the strongest terms. “This was a brutal act of violence, and we call upon communities to work closely with the police to ensure the outstanding suspect is arrested. We will not tolerate such despicable behavior, and no one is above the law,” she said.
