THE RAPE AND KIDNAPPING SUSPECT APPEARED BEFORE COURT
POLOKWANE: A 24-year-old male suspect appeared before Lulekani Magistrate’s court on Tuesday, 25 March 2025, on charges of rape and kidnapping.
He was remanded in custody, and his case was postponed to Wednesday, 26 March, for a legal aid representative.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday, 23 March 2025, following the alleged rape and kidnapping of a 23-year-old woman at Majeje village, Namakgale policing area, on Monday, 17 March 2025, at about 22:00.
According to reports, the victim went to visit her boyfriend, the suspect, where he lives. The boyfriend requested to engage in sexual intercourse with her, and she refused, indicating that she was not prepared to engage in sexual activity that day. The boyfriend then forced himself on her, and when she resisted, he threatened to strangle her.
He then overpowered her and raped her.
She remained at the boyfriend’s place until Wednesday, 19 March 2025, when she attempted to leave.
He blocked her and kept her in his room against her will. On Sunday, 23 March 2025 While in the room, she managed to alert one member of the public through cellphone, who then reported the incident to the police, who rescued her.
The suspect was traced and arrested immediately after the complaint was brought to the attention of the police.
FCS Phalaborwa was notified for further investigation.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has applauded the police for arresting the suspect.
