A company linked to Thabiso Mashatile, son of Deputy President Paul Mashatile, has been removed from the Central Supplier Database, barring it from securing government contracts. This move comes after allegations of irregularities in a R49 million tender awarded to the company, Ngwato and Manzi Group (NMG), for fire alarm and sprinkler system maintenance at Gauteng public hospitals ¹ ².
The decision raises concerns about political connections and transparency in public procurement. NMG and another company, Modipadi Nokaneng, were awarded the tender in 2022, despite allegedly sharing staff, resources, and office space. The companies were paid R36.4 million, with an additional R12.6 million still owed ¹.
The removal of NMG from the database is seen as a step towards strengthening transparency and accountability in government contracting. South Africa has been working to improve its public procurement processes, with the introduction of the Public Procurement Act aimed at promoting transparency and fairness
