TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL MINING DURING AN OPERATION AND MINING EQUIPMENT CONFISCATED
POLOKWANE The illicit mining task team in Mopani District has arrested two male suspects aged between 27 and 35 for illegal mining activity in Homu C, Giyani on Tuesday 20 January 2026.
Their apprehension emanates from the disruptive illicit mining operation conduted at Mopani by Ilicit mining task team,Tzaneen TRT, and Public Order Policing at Giyani , at Homu C village. The police received tip-off information about illegal mining activities. The information was operationalised, leading to the apprehension of two suspects, while others evaded the arrest.
During the arrest, illegal mining equipment was confiscated.
The suspects will appear before Giyani Magistrate’s court soon facing a charge of the contravention of immigration Act and illegal mining.
