TWO MALE SUSPECTS NABBED IN LEBOWAKGOMO PRECINCT FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION AND TRANSPORTATION OF SUSPECTED STOLEN PRECIOUS METALS
POLOKWANE: Two male suspects aged 36 and 42 were apprehended for possession and transportation of suspected stolen precious metals comprising of chrome on Sunday, 11 January 2026 at about 20:30 by the police in Lebowakgomo while performing patrol duties along the R579 public road.
The police received information about a white horse and trailer truck with Mpumalanga registration numbers that were illegally in possession and transporting suspected stolen chrome along the R37 public next to Mogodi village and allegedly travelling to Gauteng Province.
An immediate search was activated and the truck fitting the description was positively spotted together with red side tippers driving along the public road. The truck was stopped and police asked permission to search and it was granted by the two male occupants.
During the search, the police found the side tippers loaded with chrome. The driver and passenger were asked to produce legal documentation to possess and transport the precious metals but they failed to produce them.
The duo was immediately placed under an arrest for illegal possession and transportation of suspected stolen precious metals comprising of chrome with an estimated street value of R150,000.
Furthermore, the white Scania truck with the side tippers worth R1.2 million used in commission of the crime was also impounded during the arrest.
The two male suspects are expected to appear before the Thabamoopo Magistrate on Tuesday, 13 January 2026 facing a charge of possession and transportation of suspected stolen precious metals.
Police investigations are continuing.
