PROVINCIAL TRACKING TEAM ARREST THREE FOREIGN NATIONALS LINKED TO ALLEGED PROPHETIC SCAM IN POLOKWANE

POLOKWANE: The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has applauded the swift and coordinated efforts of the Provincial Tracking Team following the successful arrest of three suspects allegedly involved in a scam disguised as prophetic and spiritual practices.

The arrests were executed on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, after information was received about individuals who were reportedly defrauding unsuspecting community members by soliciting money under false prophetic pretences.

The operational team followed up on the intelligence and proceeded to a residence in Penina Park, Polokwane. Upon arrival, members found three male foreign nationals aged between 32 and 37, all from Uganda, who were also discovered to be without valid passports.

A search of the premises resulted in the recovery of an undisclosed amount of counterfeit money and five rats, allegedly used as tools to deceive victims during the fraudulent activities. The suspects were immediately placed under arrest.

Community members are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious or fraudulent activities to their nearest police station or to the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of possession of counterfeit money and contravention of the Immigration Act.

Police investigations are continuing.
