PROVINCIAL ANTI-CORRUPTION UNIT NABBED AN ELDERLY MALE SUSPECT FOR ALLEGED FRAUD
POLOKWANE: A 74 year-old male suspect appeared before the Giyani Magistrate court on Tuesday 02 December 2025 facing a charge of fraud.
Magezi Ben Mashaba was granted R1000.00 bail and his trial will commence at Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Thursday 04 December 2025.
It is alleged that during April and September 2024 period, three male suspects aged between 40 and 44 forcefully removed the members of the community who were occupying the houses belonging to the Department of Public Works.
A 44 year- old male suspect, Howard Mashaba reportedly told the residents that he bought the premises and subsequently trespassed, damaged the property, intimidated and assaulted some of the individuals and forced them to leave.
During the altercation, the trio also stole sand that was stored at one of the residences and the incidents reported the matter to the local police who opened cases of fraud, malicious damage to property, trespassing, theft and assault.
The matters were transferred to Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit for further investigations and later referred to Director of Public Prosecutions for decision. Later on, Warrant of arrests were issued against the male suspects who were later apprehended at Giyani precinct on Monday 04 August 2025.
Howard Mashaba (44) and his co-accused Tsakani Martin Baloyi (40) together with Stanley Chauke (42) were later granted bail and their cases were scheduled to Thursday 04 December 2025 for trial.
Furthermore, the Director of Public Prosecutions later issued a Warrant of arrest against Magezi Ben Mashaba (74) who is the Director of the company and father of Howard Mashaba (44).
An elderly male suspect was subsequently nabbed on Tuesday 02 December 2025 for a fraud charge and appeared at Giyani Magistrate Court the same day and granted a bail of R1000.00.
His case was also transferred to Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crime Court for trial on Thursday 04 December 2025 and will join the other suspects who are facing charges of fraud, malicious damage to property, trespassing, theft and assault.
Police investigations are continuing.
