The African National Congress (ANC) has rejected Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s offer to step aside from party duties amid allegations of corruption and political interference. Mchunu, who is facing a litany of allegations, including links to criminal syndicates, had written to ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, expressing his willingness to take leave from ANC activities.
However, the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) turned down his request, stating that he had not been formally charged with any crime. Mchunu’s spokesperson, Sithembiso Mshengu, confirmed that the party leadership had refused his offer, citing that he remains an elected member of the party ¹ ².
Mchunu is currently on special leave from his Cabinet responsibilities, and an acting minister has been appointed in his place. The Minister is cooperating with the Madlanga Commission and the ANC Integrity Commission, investigating the allegations against him
