BREAKING NEWS: Eswatini Official Suspended Amid ID Scandal

Nonhlanhla Malambe, a senior official in Eswatini’s Ministry of Home Affairs, has been suspended pending an investigation into allegations that she helped South African businessman Vusi “Cat” Matlala obtain a fake ID.

The suspension, issued by the Civil Service Commission, comes after months of investigation into how Matlala, who is facing corruption, money laundering, and attempted murder charges in South Africa, obtained Eswatini documents under questionable circumstances.

According to reports, Malambe allegedly used her position to create a fraudulent birth certificate for Matlala, registering him as “Vusimuzi Dlamini of Motshane” in the Hhohho Region. The ID document, which bears Matlala’s photograph, lists him as the second-born child of Christinah Thembi Shongwe of Motshane, despite Shongwe’s actual second-born child not being Matlala.

The investigation is ongoing, with Eswatini Police National Commissioner Vusi Manoma Masango confirming that investigators will travel to South Africa to gather further evidence.
