ADDITIONAL HAWKS OFFICER APPEARS IN COURT FOR CORRUPTION

PRETORIA: Captain Virginia Kupa (41), attached to the Kwazulu-Natal Hawks’ Priority Crime Management Centre (PCMC) was arrested on the morning of 24 July 2025 and subsequently appeared before the Bela-Bela Magistrates` Court alongside her co-accused, Brigadier (Dr) Mapome Mohajane (54), on charges of corruption.

The case emanates from an incident that occurred on the 14 January 2022 during which Kupa, then based at the Head Office PCMC, allegedly facilitated a meeting between the complainant, a fellow police officer, and Brigadier Mohajane. At the time, the complainant and Mohajane were not known to each other.

It is alleged that Mohajane sought the complainant’s assistance in interfering with a criminal investigation involving a Limpopo councillor. In return, Mohajane reportedly promised tenders, future favours, and a possible promotion at police Head Office, leveraging his purported connections, to influence the complainant.

Following a comprehensive investigation, Brigadier Mohajane was arrested on 15 January 2025. Further developments in the case led to the arrest of Captain Kupa. She was granted bail of R3,000.

The matter has been postponed to 26 August 2025 for further investigation.
