WOMAN WHO ATTACKED MMAPEU HLANGA WITH ACID OVER A MAN RETURNS TO COURT
The attempted murder case against a 25 – year old suspect is set to resume at the Mokopane Regional Court this morning.
The matter stems from an incident that occurred in October 2024 but was formally reported to the police in January 2025.
A 27-year-old woman, Mmapeu Hlanga was allegedly attacked and doused with acid by a 25-year-old female suspect, Ivyone Maja, reportedly over a romantic dispute.
The assault occurred at the home of the victim’s boyfriend in Mogoto village, within the Moletlane policing precinct outside Zebediela.
Following police investigations, the suspect was arrested on 14 February 2025 and appeared in the Zebediela Periodical Court on 15 February 2025.
She was granted bail of R3 000-00, and the case was transferred to the Mokopane Regional Court for further proceedings.
The accused made her first appearance at the Mokopane Regional Court on 01 July 2025.
The incident that was initially reported as assault with grievous bodily harm but has now been changed to attempted murder.
Hlanga has been receiving heartwarming support from various organizations with over R120 000 having been donated thus far and she is currently receiving medical attention at Mankweng Hospital.
