Chief Justice Mandisa Maya has today (20 July 2025) issued directions in former President Jacob Zuma and the MK’s party legal challenge against President’s Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to place Police Minister on special leave.

This after Zuma & the MK party filed papers in the apex court to challenge the said decision as well as the decision to appoint Professor Cachalia as Acting Minister of Police and the establishment of a judicial Commission of Inquiry.
The said directions set a number of deadlines for interested parties namely that those who wish to oppose the application must file their answering affidavits on or before Tuesday, 2 July 2025.
In addition, any interested parties that wish to intervene in support of the main application must file their intervention applications, on or before Monday, 21 July 2025.
Lastly, any interested parties that wish to intervene in opposition to the main application must file their intervention applications, on or before Tuesday, 22 July 2025.
The court further notes that further directions may be issued.
