67-YEAR-OLD WOMAN GRANTED BAIL IN CASE INVOLVING DEATH OF 13-YEAR-OLD
The case against 67-year-old Martha Christina, who is facing charges of Culpable Homicide and Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident, has been postponed to 20 August 2025 to allow for further investigations.
Christina appeared at the Germiston Magistrates’ Court, where she was granted bail of R5 000. As part of her bail conditions, she cannot leave the Gauteng province without notifying the investigating officer.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on 28 June 2025 at Dinwiddie in Germiston, when the accused allegedly drove her vehicle into a crowd of people. Among those present were young girls participating in a traditional coming-of-age ceremony. Christina’s vehicle allegedly struck 13-year-old Thando Pretty Mahlangu, who later succumbed to her injuries. The accused allegedly failed to stop at the scene and drove off immediately after the collision.
The NPA is committed to ensuring justice, particularly in cases involving the loss of young lives, by working closely with law enforcement to uphold accountability and the rule of law.
