POLICE INVESTIGATE CASE OF VIOLATION OF GRAVE AND CORPSE IN MPHEPHU POLICING AREA

POLOKWANE The Police at Mphephu in Vhembe District outside Thohoyandou have launched an investigation following a violation of the grave at Mavhunga village cemetery on Saturday 12 July 2025.

A family member received a phone call from one of the community members alerting her about the unknown group of people busy digging out the graves. She quickly responded and rushed to the scene and on arrival at the cemetery, she found that indeed the grave was dug, and some pieces of the coffin were outside. The alleged suspects were already gone.

The Police were informed, and upon arriving at the cemetery, they discovered that a grave was dug out and pieces of coffins broken.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has expressed her shock about what happened at the graveyard. She further instructed the detectives to make use of the available resources to track and trace the suspects.

A case of violation of the grave was registered at Mphephu Police Station and anyone with information that can assist with the investigations should contact the Investigating Officer Sergeant Lirovha Mashudu Fortune on 072 943 5260 or crime stop number 08600 10111 or nearest police station or may use MySAPSApp.
