LIKHONA FOSE MURDER ACCUSED GRANTED BAIL

The Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court granted parolee, Mduduzi Trevor Mnisi, bail of R5000. He is charged with the murder of Likhona Fose, whose remains were discovered in an open veld at Durban Deep on 01 June 2025. Mnisi was released on parole in December 2018 after he was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment for attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

During the bail application, the Investigating Officer, Moses Semosa, testified, stating that an eyewitness had seen the accused going to his place with the deceased on 31 May 2025 around 16h00. The accused denied killing the deceased, stating that he doesn’t know the deceased and further said that the State should check his phone records as he was in Daveyton to meet his friends, ‘Fish’ and ‘Madiba’. This alibi was investigated, and his phone was indeed linked to a tower in Daveyton.

The accused called his girlfriend to give testimony that they were together on the 31st after 19h00 and spent the night together, further stating that the accused never left her sight. This was contrary to the analysis of the accused’s cellphone records that linked his phone to a tower in Kagiso around 20h00. The court also heard evidence from his Parole Officer, Neo Lakaje, who, upon getting details about his phone being placed in Daveyton, told the court that he violated his parole conditions as he never obtained prior permission to be in another jurisdiction. The case was postponed to Friday,11 July for further investigations.
