SAPS LIMPOPO PROBE ATTEMPTED MURDER CASE INVOLVING ACID ATTACK IN MOGOTO VILLAGE, MAGATLE

POLOKWANE – The South African Police Service in Limpopo probe a disturbing case of attempted murder that occurred at Mogoto village under Magatle police precinct, following an incident that was initially reported as assault, with greviuos bodily harm.

The matter stems from an incident that occurred in October 2024, but was formally reported to the police in January 2025. A 27-year-old woman, was allegedly attacked and doused with acid by a 25-year-old female suspect, Ivyone Maja, reportedly over a romantic dispute. The assault occurred at the home of the victim’s boyfriend in Mogoto village, within the Moletlane policing precinct outside Zebediela.

Following police investigations, the suspect was arrested on 14 February 2025 and appeared in the Zebediela Periodical Court on 15 February 2025. She was granted bail of R3,000, and the case was transferred to the Mokopane Regional Court for further proceedings.

The accused made her first appearance at the Mokopane Regional Court on 01 July 2025. The matter has been postponed for further court processes and is scheduled to continue on 21 July 2025.

The investigation continues.
