POLOKWANE – The Police in Senwabarwana have arrested a 29-year-old suspect for the alleged murder of his 33-year-old girlfriend at Nailana village during the early hours of Sunday, 06 July 2025.
According to preliminary reports, the couple was at a local tavern when a heated argument ensued. The situation escalated, and the suspect allegedly began assaulting the victim.
The two later proceeded to the suspect’s residence where the assault allegedly continued, this time with open sticks as well. At approximately 05:00, the suspect allegedly contacted the victim’s sister after realising the victim was unconscious. The sister immediately alerted emergency medical services and the police.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but the victim was unfortunately declared dead upon arrival.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. The motive behind the attack is still subject to ongoing police investigations.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 08 July 2025.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the swift arrest and strongly condemned the continuous incidents of gender-based violence.
“We are deeply disturbed by the brutal killing of yet another woman, allegedly at the hands of her intimate partner. We urge communities to speak out, intervene, and report abusive behaviour before it escalates. Gender-based violence has no place in our society,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
Police investigations are continuing.
