FORMER EMPLOYEE OF A PRIVATE VEHICLE TESTING STATION WAS SENTENCED

LIMPOPO: On 19 June 2025, a former employee of a private Vehicle Testing Station, Abel Kabelo Chilenge (37) appeared before the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court where he was sentenced to six years imprisonment for fraud. This follows his conviction by the same court on 09 June 2025.

During April 2021, the accused was attached to a Quick-Test Private Vehicle Station in Modimolle. Mr Chilenge issued a vehicle road worthy certificate without conducting a mandatory physical inspection. He used particulars of a truck that was impounded at the Traffic Pounding Station in Hammanskraal to issue such fraudulent certificate.

As a result a case docked of fraud was opened and investigated by the Polokwane based Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation. Further investigation conducted by the Hawks discovered that the accused forged the signature of a truck owner that was in pounding station at Hammanskraal. The accused was arrested by the Hawks during May 2021. He made several court appearances until his conviction and sentencing.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province Major General (Adv) Gopz Govender welcomed the sentence of the accused.
