PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER OF LIMPOPO CONDEMNS VIGILANTE ATTACK THAT CLAIMED TWO LIVES IN VUWANI

POLOKWANE The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned the brutal vigilante attack that resulted in the deaths of two men in Tshimbipfe Tshilindi village, Vuwani, on 2 June 2025.

Police responded to a distressing scene on Monday morning after receiving reports of an assault near a local farm. Upon arrival, officers discovered two African male victims, aged 41 and 49 years, who had been severely assaulted and left naked and tied up with multiple injuries. Paramedics at the scene certified one victim dead, while the second victim was rushed to hospital where he was later certified dead upon arrival.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased were suspected of livestock theft when they were cornered by unknown community members who brutally assaulted them. One dead cow and two other cattle were found near the victims at the scene.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this act of vigilantism,” said Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Hadebe. “Taking the law into one’s own hands is not only illegal but represents a fundamental breakdown of our constitutional values and the rule of law.”

Police have opened two counts of murder and a massive manhunt has been launched to apprehend the suspects responsible for attacks.

Anyone with information that can lead to the apprehension of the suspects is urged to contact the Investigating Officer Sergeant Ndidzulafhi Mulaudzi on 076 939 9199 or Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or their nearest police station. All information will be treated with the strictest confidence.

The investigation continues .
