HOUSE BREAKING ACCUSED SENT TO LENGTHY PRISON TIME
NORTHERN CAPE – Mothibistad Regional Court sentenced 4 accused to a lengthy sentence. The accused were found guilty on charges of house breaking with intention to steal and theft, house breaking with intention to rob with common purpose, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of firearm as well as reckless endangerment to a person or property. Sentencing took place on Wednesday, 14 May 2025.
The quartet, namely Kenaleone Joseph Bulang (46), Chopper Abram Phuduhudu (44), Thabang Mogotsi (40) and Boitumelo Andrew Mojaki (34) were arrestd by Hawks Kathu based Serious Organised Crime members in October 2019, shortly after they committed a house robbery in Kagung village in John Taolo Gaetsewe District.
The group, which was clad in balaclavas stormed in a house in Kagung demanding that the occupants hand over R33 000 which was allegedly brought during the day. One of the accused fired a shot towards the wall to scare the victims. They then ransacked the house making off with R900 cash, a bank card as well as a television set, cellphones, laptop. All the stolen items were later recovered when Police cornered the accused with all the stolen items intact in their get away vehicle.
The court saw it fit to impose the following sentences. Kenaleone Bulang, on count 1 of housebreaking with intention to steal and theft, sentenced to undergo (6) years’ imprisonment. Count 2, of house breaking with intention to rob with common purpose, (4) years’ imprisonment. Count 3, robbery with aggravating circumstances, (10) years’ imprisonment. Count 4, possession of firearm, (5) years’ imprisonment. Count 7, reckless endangerment to a person or property, (5) years’ imprisonment.
Chopper Phuduhudu, Count 1, (6) years’ imprisonment. Count 2, (4) years’ imprisonment. Count 3, (10) years’ imprisonment, count 2 is ordered to run concurrently with count 3, accused to serve (16) years’ imprisonment.
Thabang Mogotsi, Count 1, (6) years imprisonment, Count 2, (4) years imprisonment, Count 3, (10) years imprisonment, and Count 4, ordered to run concurrently with count 2,3,4 resulting in the accused serving (16) years as well as being declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Boitumelo Mojaki, Count 2, (4) years imprisonment. Count 3, (10) years’ imprisonment, count 2 is ordered to run concurrently with count 3, resulting in the accused serving (12) years as well as being declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Count 4, (5) years’ imprisonment, count 2, 3,4, ordered to run concurrently, accused to serve (16) years and is declared unfit to posses a firearm.
The Provincial Head of Northern Cape Hawks Major General Stephen Molefi Mabuela, “good investigation results in good sentences and that is what we got today, statement making sentences” concluded the general.
