A 34 YEAR-OLD MALE ACCUSED SENTENCED TO 08 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDER OF A 17 YEAR-OLD MALE VICTIM
POLOKWANE : The Waterval Regional court has on Monday 14 April 2025, sentenced a 34 year-old male accused to eight years imprisonment in connection with a murder of a 17 year-old male victim at Rotterdam village under Hlanganani policing area.
It is alleged that on 11 November 2017 at about 19:00, a 17 year-old male victim was forcefully holding a Grade nine female learner by her hands and demanded to leave with her by force.
The accused, Nkateko Lassy Motileni allegedly attempted to rescue the learner but the victim refused and he was stabbed with a sharp object on the upper body by Nkateko who immediately fled the scene on foot afterward.
The members of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned and declared the victim dead on their arrival at the scene.
A murder case was opened at the local police and an immediate manhunt of the suspect was launched for his apprehension. Through the excellent detective work executed by Sergeant Cate Mahani, the accused was traced and subsequently nabbed while at Rotterdam village on 14 November 2017.
Nkateko made numerous court appearances and was later granted bail but he later absconded to Gauteng province until he was re-arrested on 18 December 2024.
The accused was never granted bail until he was handed an eight years imprisonment by the Waterval Regional court on 2Monday 14 April 2025.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the court verdict and praised Sergeant Cate Mahani for her outstanding work in ensuring that justice prevails for the lives that are continuously lost across the province.
