Police sergeant sentenced to 15 years imprisonment

Sergeant Nierush Seanego, 39, a former member of the Mahwelereng Visible Policing unit, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances and defeating the ends of justice.

The charges stem from a February 2023 incident where Seanego and accomplices stopped a motorist near Nyl Plaza, forcibly removed the victim from their car, and stole R20,000.

Following a detailed investigation by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit and the Polokwane Tactical Response Team, sufficient evidence linked Seanego to the crime.

He was arrested on 4 March 2024 at his home. Initially granted bail after appealing to the High Court in Polokwane, Seanego was later convicted on 10 March 2025. In addition to his prison sentence, he was also declared unfit to hold a firearm.
