POLICE OFFICER FOUND GUILTY OF MURDERING HIS GIRLFRIEND

The Pretoria High Court has found a former Police constable stationed at Eersterust Police Station, Kgabo Vincent Rammutla (40), guilty of the premeditated murder of his 29-year-old girlfriend, Lisbeth Seloma.

The incident occurred on the evening of 15 October 2017 at the couple’s residence in Mamelodi. An argument broke out between, after Seloma informed Rammutla of her decision to end their relationship and move out. During the altercation, Rammutla fatally shot her multiple times using his service pistol. He then exited the room, went outside and yelled for people to call the police, and confessed to killing his girlfriend. Neighbours alerted the police, and Rammutla was arrested at the scene.

In court, Rammutla pleaded not guilty to the charge. However, the State, led by Advocate Pieter Luyt, presented compelling evidence and credible witnesses. This included the couple’s landlord who stayed in the yard and testified about the events leading to the deceased death on the day.

In delivering judgment, Judge Jacobus Johannes Strijdom ruled that Rammutla, had a clear motive to kill Seloma, as she was planning to leave him. The court found that his actions of firing multiple shots demonstrated intent to kill. Furthermore, the judge found the State’s witnesses to be credible and reliable. Moreover, the judge found that the state was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The National Prosecuting Authority welcomes the conviction and views it as a significant step in securing justice for the victim and her family.

The matter has been postponed to 09 April 2025 for sentencing proceedings.
