PREMIER DR RAMATHUBA UNVEILS OVER 250 NEW YELLOW FLEET TO SERVE THE PEOPLE OF LIMPOPO
Premier of Limpopo Dr Phophi Ramathuba, today unveiled 251 heavy earth moving machinery to maintain Limpopo gravel roads. The launch held at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium saw a display of front loaders, graders, concrete mixers, tar cutters, mini-busses, vans and slow roller.
“As we unveil this state-of-the-art fleet, we are not merely adding vehicles to our inventory; we are making a profound statement of commitment to building sustainable road networks, enhancing public infrastructure and empowering the people of Limpopo,” said Premier Dr Ramathuba.
The procuring of fleet was a commitment made when the Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure (DPWRI), led by MEC Ernest Rachoene, activated the Dikgerekgere Wednesday programme in July 2024. This programme is focused on blading and re-gravelling of gravel road as well as debushing of road reserves.
“I am very proud today, when we made the announcement at the beginning of our term people threw cold water at us saying this will never happen. They said the #DikgerekgereWednesday campaign will collapse after its launch and that we shall not get enough machinery to support it, look at is now, we are forging ahead,” Premier Dr Ramathuba expressed.
The day culminated with the MEC for DPWRI having an appreciation lunch with the drivers and operators of the yellow fleet, who have been hard at work servicing the people of Limpopo.
The department also announced appointment of 172 workers who shall be mainly linked to the road maintenance programme.
In attendance were the Executive Mayor of Capricorn District, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, Executive, chairperson of the portfolio committee on Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure members led by, Mr Khathutshelo Netshifhefhe.
