OVER 400 SUSPECTS ARRESTED DURING THE ONGOING OPERATIONS SHANELA IN LIMPOPO
POLOKWANE- The Police in Limpopo have arrested four hundred and seven (407) suspects during the ongoing operation Shannela conducted from 07 to 13 October 2024. The suspects are facing charges including murder, rape, robberies, house breakings, assaults, dealing in drugs, unlawful possession of firearms, and Contravention of the Immigration Act.
Operations were carried out through roadblocks, stop and searches, and tracing of wanted suspects. The multi-disciplinary operations were conducted by members from various SAPS units, SANDF, departments and other stakeholders such as the Community in Blue as force multipliers in crime combatting efforts.
Firearms, drugs, and other items recovered during the operations are as follows: 04 x firearms, 34 x ammunition, 01 x blasting explosives, 8604, 15kg x copper cables, 125× counterfeit goods, 19x dangerous weapons, 03 x stolen/ robbed vehicles, large quantity of alcohol, various types of drugs such as dagga, nyaope, and crystal meth.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members for working tirelessly in ensuring that the citizens of this province are protected and safe.
Some of the suspects have started appearing before various Magistrate’s courts across the province.
