POLOKWANE Two undocumented foreign nationals, aged 20 and 47, have been arrested in Musina on Friday, 04 October 2024, following a tactical operation targeting cross-border smuggling activities

Acting on credible information, police intercepted a group of approximately 70 individuals carrying boxes of illicit cigarettes fleeing towards the nearby hills near Musina Golf Club. Upon police arrival, the suspects discarded the boxes and ran in different directions, evading arrest. However, officers successfully apprehended two suspects for violations of the Customs and Exerxcise Act, Import and Export Control Act, and Illegal Immigration.

During the operation, police recovered two boxes valued at R18,000 and an additional 226 boxes of illicit cigarettes valued at more than R1 million, which were abandoned in the bush.

The suspects are scheduled to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 07 October 2024.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Samuel Manala, commended the officers for their swift response and ongoing efforts to combat cross-border crimes.

Police investigation continues to dismantle criminal syndicates involved in illicit cigarettes across the province.
