MEC Dieketseng Mashego to Lead School Health Programme Visit at Mokgoboya Primary School to Combat Bilharzia
The Limpopo Department of Health MEC Dieketseng Mashego will lead a team of healthcare professionals on a visit to Mokgoboya Primary School in Greater Tzaneen. This visit is part of an intensified school health programme aimed at screening, testing, and treating children for bilharzia after confirming 155 cases in the area. In response to this scourge, the Limpopo Provincial Government has since established a task team comprising representatives from the Office of the Premier, the Department of Education, and the Department of Corporative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs.
Bilharzia, also known as schistosomiasis, is a parasitic disease that poses significant health risks, particularly to school-aged children. As part of the response, the provincial government is prioritising the screening of children in affected areas to prevent further transmission and to provide timely treatment to those infected. It is against this background that MEC Mashego will embark on a visit planned as follows:
Date: 10 September 2024
Venue: Thabina Primary School, Ga Mokgoboya, Greater Tzaneen
Time: 8H00
