LIMPOPO PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER ORDERS A PROBE INTO DELIBERATE TORCHING OF VEHICLES , AT MOLETLANE POLICING PRECINCT
POLOKWANE The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered an immediate probe following a series of torching of vehicles, all executed with a similar modus operandi
Over the past six months( between January and beginning of this month) , there have been more than ten reported cases of vehicles being deliberately set on fire across Moletlane policing precinct outside Zebediela.
Preliminary investigations indicate a consistent pattern in the methods used, suggesting a deliberate effort by an individual(s) targeting vehicles parked at residential properties during the early hours. In three of the incidents, the properties were also partially torched .
The recent incident took place on Thursday, 04 July at about 02:00am in Mawaneng village where a Nissan Navara which was parked next to a residential property was torched. Some of the property inside the house also caught fire.
During the incident that occurred in May, the assailant torched an Isuzu bakkie in Moletlane village. Meanwhile, a Toyota Hilux bakkie was also set alight in June at Matjatji village.
Subsequent to these senseless acts, a Special Task team has been established, and the members are actively collaborating to apprehend the perpetrator(s) behind these destructive acts.
The motive behind the incidents is still subject to police investigation.
Police have since opened cases of arson and malicious damage to property.
