CROSS-ALIVE ROAD SAFETY OPERATIONS MAKE POSITIVE IMPACT IN THE VHEMBE DISTRICT WITH APPREHENSION OF ONE HUNDRED SIXTY SUSPECTS

POLOKWANE: The build-up operations that commenced in the early hours of Monday 31 July 2023 for the upcoming Cross-Alive Road Safety Campaign that will be conducted on Tuesday 01 August 2023 by the Minister of Transport, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga have yielded positive results in the Vhembe District.

The operations resulted to apprehension of One hundred and fifty(159) suspects for Contravention of Immigration Act. It also including one for non-compliance of selling liquor without a valid license.

In addition, 57 fines worth thousands of rands were also issued to motorists for Contravention of Road Traffic Act .

The operations were conducted in Musina Policing precinct through roadblocks, stop and searches under the theme: “Obey the Law and Cross-Alive” . Its objective is to advocate Road Safety along the Beitbridge corridor just outside Musina in the Limpopo Province.

The operations were also aimed to strengthen good collaboration between law enforcement authorities in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

Other external Stakeholders who participated in the Joint Law Enforcement Operations comprised of the Road Transport Inspectorate (RTI) Unit, Road Accident Fund (RAF), Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA), South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL), South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Customs (SARS), Limpopo Provincial and Local Traffic Police as well as law enforcement authorities from Zimbabwe and Zambia.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate court soon facing charges of illegal immigration and non-compliance of selling liquor without a license.

The operations are currently continuing to stamp out the criminal elements across Musina Policing area.
