Five men appeared briefly before Polokwane Magistrates’ Court, on a charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances. The accused persons are from Umlazi Durban, Mduduzi Zulu(30), Lindokuhle Skhosana(29), Asanda Mhlongo(24), Sandile Ngcobo (40) and Sifundo Chiya (34). It is alleged that on 12 May 2023, in the morning, the accused persons entered Debbie Mounton’s jewellery store, in Savannah Mall, walking in a group of more than five people and holding employees at gunpoint, before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of jewellery. They were arrested at Mooi River, in Pietermaritzburg, in possession of stolen items which was positively linked to the robbery of Savannah Mall. The value of the jewellery is estimated at over R3 million, and Police are still looking for other suspects. The matter is adjourned to 14 June 2023, for a bail hearing and the accused persons will remain in custody.
