BIOLOGICAL FATHER SENTENCED TO 2 LIFE TERMS FOR RAPE OF HIS SIX-YEAR-OLD SON
The Secunda Regional Court sentenced a 44 year-old man to 2 life terms after he was convicted of raping his six-year-old son, on two separate occasions. These incidents took place in 2020, in Standerton, Sakhile location where the complainant was residing with his family. The first incident happened when his mother was outside doing laundry. The accused took the victim to the bedroom and sexually violated him.
The complainant informed his mother that he is bleeding when he is going to the toilet and the mother thought that he got injured because he is a boy and he played rough. In the next incident, the accused and the victim’s mother were drinking when the accused took the victim to the bedroom and sexually violated him. His mother walked into the bedroom and found the accused raping the child. The mother reported the matter to the police.
In court, the accused denied the allegations leveled against him. State Prosecutor Grace Khotsa, led evidence of the victim who was able to give his testimony using intermediary services. Evidence of a first report was also led, this was supported by a medical report which proved that the victim sustained serious injuries when the incident happened. In aggravation of sentence prosecutor Khoza told the court that the accused committed the most horrific crime and caused his son to re-live the ordeal and destroyed the trust position with his only son.
The accused was sentenced to life imprisonment on each count. The court ordered the accused person’s name to be entered into the National Register for Sexual Offenders, was declared unfit to work with children, and was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The National Prosecuting Authority is pleased with the sentence imposed on the accused with the hope that it will deter future offenders who prey on women and children. We commend the good work done by the prosecution and the police that justice prevailed.
